Wat Saket (Golden Mount)

Wat Saket, also known as the Golden Mount, is situated on a man-made hill in the historic Rattanakosin area of Bangkok. Its elevated location provides visitors with breathtaking vistas of the cityscape and surrounding landmarks. The temple’s origins date back to the Ayutthaya period, but it was extensively renovated during the reign of King Rama I in the 18th century.

One of the main attractions of Wat Saket is the Golden Mount itself. To reach the top, visitors ascend a series of steps, each flanked by a beautifully adorned balustrade. The gradual ascent is part of the spiritual experience, allowing you to reflect and engage in a meditative journey.

The effort of the climb is rewarded with panoramic views of Bangkok from the summit. From this vantage point, you can capture stunning photographs of the city’s skyline, historic landmarks, and the Chao Phraya River. The view is particularly enchanting during sunset, as the city is bathed in warm hues.

Atop the Golden Mount stands a gleaming golden chedi (stupa), which houses sacred relics of the Buddha. Visitors can walk around the chedi, offer prayers, and enjoy a sense of peace and reverence. The chedi’s golden exterior glimmers in the sunlight, making it a visual highlight of the temple.

As you descend the Golden Mount, you’ll encounter a collection of bells that visitors can ring for good luck. Nearby, there’s a tranquil meditation area where you can take a moment for quiet contemplation amid the temple’s serene surroundings.

Wat Saket also features a beautifully designed ordination hall (bot) with intricate wooden carvings and murals. The hall is a place of worship and a testament to Thai craftsmanship and artistry.
