MRT (Metropolitan Rapid Transit)

The MRT, officially known as the Metropolitan Rapid Transit, is an underground rapid transit system serving Bangkok. It began its operations in 2004 with the opening of the Blue Line. Since then, the system has expanded to include the Purple Line, the Yellow Line and the Pink Line, creating an extensive web that connects key areas of the city. For most tourists, the most useful line is the Blue Line, which runs in a quasi loop around the city.

Similar to BTS Skytrain, the MRT offers both single journey tickets and stored value cards. The MRT’s stored value card, known as the MRT Plus Card, allows for convenient and swift entries and exits. Fares are distance-based, making it affordable for various travel distances.

The service operates daily from 6 AM to 12 midnight.
